Protests in front of the town hall, citizens clash with the police

Protests have escalated in front of the municipality of Tirana. The protesters have removed the metal fence, physically clashing with the police.

With the calls "down with the dictatorship", the protestors clashed with the police, who surrounded the town hall building.

The opposition councilors have asked to enter their offices in the municipality, but according to them, this has not been allowed by the municipality.

The deputies asked the police to withdraw and not to confront, while a request was also made to the protesters that they should not throw stones.

This is the fifth protest held in front of the City Hall, which has already become a symbol of corruption, after the "5D" affair.

The opposition demands Veliaj's resignation after the Special Prosecutor's Office against Crime and Corruption arrested several directors and former directors of the capital's municipality at the end of March, and ordered some others to appear, under charges of passive corruption, concealment and non-declaration of assets, violations of equality in tenders, related to the suspected affair of the 5D construction company.
