REL: Ervin Muço was arrested after the establishment of the investigative

The Director of Information Technology (IT) in the State Police in Albania, Ervin Muço, was put under "house arrest" after allegedly interfering with the system that records the entry and exit of citizens at the border points.

The Prosecutor's Office of Tirana said that it requested the measure of house arrest and suspension of the exercise of duty, as it is investigating him for "unauthorized access" to the system known as TIMS.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the incident allegedly happened in August last year.

"The actions were carried out in the late hours of the night, when unauthorized persons entered the building with the personal pin of another absent employee, raising reasonable suspicions of incorrect actions and in violation of the law", said the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana.

Also, the investigations so far show that the director of IT in the State Police is an external adviser to the director of the State Cadastre Agency - which the Law on the State Police does not allow.

According to the Prosecution, Muço did not declare this second activity in the application documents for the position of IT director in the State Police.

The house arrest order comes at a time when a parliamentary commission of inquiry has been set up for suspected tampering with TIMS system data. The commission was established following the request of the Albanian opposition.

The chairman of this commission, democratic deputy Ervin Salianji, said that the house arrest of Muço "is the result of the work of this commission, as well as the opposition's continuous denunciations on this matter"./ REL
