"Air Albania in complete crisis"/ DP: How Rama's "national pride" is being destroyed

"Air Albania in complete crisis"/ DP: How Rama's "national

The spokesperson for the Anti-Corruption Department of the Democratic Party, Genta Vangjeli, raised concerns about the financial situation of Air Albania, which Prime Minister Edi Rama had declared on June 20 as the country's "national pride".

According to Vangjeli, the direct route between Tirana and Ljubljana, launched with great fanfare by Air Albania, was canceled two months later, on August 20, due to financial difficulties, according to Slovenian media reports.

Vangjeli emphasized that this was not surprising, as the company, founded in 2018 with 10% state ownership through Albcontrol, has only published the balance sheet for the first year of operation and has not subsequently provided any information on the financial statements.

Also, there is a lack of data on court decisions and notifications from private bailiffs regarding Air Albania's millions of euros in liabilities to third parties, raising doubts about the company's deep financial crisis.

Vangjeli also mentioned the agreement that the company has signed with the General Directorate of Government Services since 2020 to provide charter flights for Prime Minister Rama.

The opposition has previously demanded transparency and the creation of an investigative commission into the prime minister's charter trips, but the request was rejected by the majority.

Today, the DP demands that the Prime Minister and Air Albania provide answers: is "national pride" heading towards bankruptcy due to the unaffordable expenses related to Edi Rama's charter trips?

Full statement:

On June 20, Air Albania, proclaimed by Prime Minister Edi Rama as 'national pride', announced the launch of direct flights between Tirana and Ljubljana, reconnecting Albania and Slovenia after several years.

But two months later, on August 20, Slovenian media informed the public that the company canceled plans for this line due to financial difficulties.

And this is not surprising at all.

Air Albania, established in 2018 with 10% state ownership through Albcontrol, has submitted to the Central Bank only its balance sheet for the first year of operation (2018), and subsequently no publication regarding the financial statements of this company.

There is also a lack of data on court decisions and official notifications from private bailiffs regarding Air Albania's millions of euros in liabilities to third parties.

This concealment raises doubts about the company's deep financial crisis.

Meanwhile, since 2020, Air Albania has entered into a cooperation agreement with the General Directorate of Government Services to provide special charter flight services for the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania.

The opposition has demanded transparency and an investigative commission into the Prime Minister's chartered trips, but this was rejected by the majority.

Today we demand that the Prime Minister and the company provide answers: is 'national pride' heading towards bankruptcy due to the unaffordable expenses resulting from Edi Rama's charter trips?
