Entela Fureraj, known by her stage name as Eleni Foureira, has had a complex history in her statements about Albanian descent. Eleni was born on March 7, 1987 in the city of Fier.

Later, she and her family moved to Greece and years later she pursued a career as a musician. At first, Eleni denied her Greek origin but then spoke openly and proudly admitted that she is Albanian but has never hidden her love for Greece.

In a recent interview for the Greek media, the artist said: "I feel proud to be Albanian but Greece is the country I love."

The singer also said that she left Albania quite small, at the moment when the civil war was taking place.

"I came to Greece because of the civil war in Albania. I was about 8-9 years old. From the children I remember only the beautiful memories, while I tried to erase the bad moments, like the civil war. My father at the time was working in Greece to earn money. He sent us in taxis to bring us to Greece and that day I have never forgotten. In Albania my mother was only with 4 minor children. My mother carried a shotgun at home and in the afternoons fired into the air to show that she had a gun so we would not be endangered. It was a heroine. When Mom told me we were going to leave I didn’t want to, it was hard for me. "The day I left home I started crying," said Eleni Foureira.

Eleni also confessed in this interview that she felt bullied in Greece by her children when she was little.

"Children bullied me, there were only two children from Albania at school and at that time Albanians were not accepted by society. I am proud to have been born in Albania, but Greece is my homeland, I love it. "It's the place I want to be."
