France is engulfed by protests against the pension reform, a challenge for

France has been engulfed in protests following proposed changes to retirement rules.

In a sign of revolt, workers are stopping trains, cutting off electricity supplies and taking to the streets. This is seen as a major test for Emmanuel Macron and his presidency.

The retirement age will increase from 62 to 64 years. In a country with an aging population and rising life expectancy, Macron's government says reform is the only way to keep the system in balance.

Polls suggest that most French oppose the reform. More than 200 protests are expected across France today.

The French government will formally present the pension bill on Monday and it will go to Parliament next month.
