The investigative show Fiks Fare has addressed a disturbing case of environmental pollution in the village of Mihaj in Koplik, following complaints and videos received by the editorial staff. The footage showed large amounts of hospital waste dumped among urban waste, posing a serious risk to public health and the environment.

To verify this, Fiks Fare journalists immediately traveled to the village of Mihaj in Koplik and found that the waste had been dumped on top, in an apparent attempt to hide it.
Just a few meters away from the pile was a parked van. While digging, the journalists discovered cardboard boxes and bags filled with hospital waste, confirming that it had been deliberately covered.

A few minutes after Fiks Fare arrived, IKMT inspectors arrived at the scene, who surrounded the area with security tape. When asked by journalists, they admitted that covering the remains was a legal violation and said that since yesterday the police had been responsible for their protection until 06:00 in the morning.

Fiks Fare journalists went to the police station to seek clarification. The crime chief, who came out to speak with them, admitted that the situation was problematic, but denied that the remains had been covered up. After being shown the photos, he said that covering them up would be a legal violation and that the police had taken the appropriate procedures, referring the case to the prosecutor’s office.

Fiksi journalists also requested information from the Municipality of Malesia e Madhe. The deputy mayor initially stated that the remains had been covered to prevent their spread, but then tried to deny the involvement of the institution he represented. Just a few minutes later, he called the editorial office and admitted that he had been mistaken, saying that it was not the municipality that had covered the remains.

Fiks Fare journalists also inquired at the Malësia e Madhe Hospital, where the director of the institution distanced himself from the incident. He said that the hospital has a legal contract with a company for waste treatment and that the amount of waste produced by this hospital is very small. Fiks Fare also called the head of IKMT, who explained that measures have been taken against the Municipality of Malësia e Madhe with a fine./ TCH
