The Peace Board, how Rama's virtual enthusiasm was exhausted in just a few days

The Peace Board, how Rama's virtual enthusiasm was exhausted in just a few

The January 17th euphoria for Prime Minister Edi Rama when he published on social media the news that he had been invited by US President Donald Trump to participate in a peace initiative he himself created for Gaza did not last long and everything turned out to be just a "soap bubble".

That same day, Rama announced that he had been invited by Trump and that this also makes Albania proud.

Rama's post:

GREATLY HONORED BY PRESIDENT TRUMP'S PERSONAL INVITATION TO REPRESENT ALBANIA ON THE PEACE BOARD, A NEW INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION IDEATED BY HIM, WHERE ALBANIA IS INVITED AS A FOUNDING MEMBER, THUS REACHING ANOTHER INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHT UNIMAGINEABLE UNTIL JUST A FEW YEARS AGO.

I COULDN'T BE MORE PROUD OF ALBANIA, FOR EVERYTHING WE HAVE DONE IN THESE YEARS, TURNED IT INTO ANOTHER ALBANIA, DIGNIFIED AND RESPECTED WORLDWIDE LIKE NEVER BEFORE, AND UNQUESTIONABLE ALSO FOR THE LEVEL WHERE WE HAVE BUILT OUR STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP RELATIONSHIP WITH THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, BEING INVITED WITH VERY SPECIAL RESPECT AND APPRECIATION BY PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP, TO BECOME PART OF AN INTERNATIONAL BOARD CREATED AND CHAIRED BY HIM HIMSELF AND TO WORK TOGETHER WITH HIM.

THANK YOU MR. PRESIDENT GOD BLESS ALBANIA AND THE UNITED STATES

The next day, Rama continues the propaganda by posting the letter with Trump's signature.

"GOOD MORNING and with the honor and pleasure of sharing with you the letter I received yesterday from the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, thanking you for the privilege of the trust you have given me, as well as assuring you that I will do everything necessary to exalt the name of Albania and the dignity of Albanians, I wish you a peaceful Sunday," Rama wrote.

As if to keep the 'game' going, Foreign Minister Elisa Spiropali organized a press conference on this very issue.

" This invitation is a high assessment of the role that Albania has taken in peace issues. The invitation of American President Donald Trump is also an assessment of the leadership of Rama, who has been personally invited to the Peace Board. When this direct invitation by Trump to the Prime Minister of Albania confirms the strength and mutual trust and strategic confidence of Albania and the United States of America ," said Spiropali.

But just a few days later, the enthusiasm began to wane, as it became clear that the invitation was neither unique nor selective.

In the following days, it was noted that Trump's invitations to the 'Peace Board' were not just for a few selected countries. Rather, more than 50 countries have received invitations from Trump, even to Vladimir Putin of Russia and Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus.

Because of these two invitations, European Union countries have refused to join and only 22 countries have accepted.

Meanwhile, today, January 22, the official ceremony for the establishment of the Peace Board began in Davos, which Rama had welcomed with great enthusiasm.

In the hall were several state leaders personally invited by Donald Trump, among them the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, who exchanged a few words with Trump.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama was not there, but this morning he appeared in the Albanian Parliament, where he had brought for ratification the agreement for Albania's membership in the Peace Board.

Asked by the opposition why he was not present, Rama gave one more mocking response.

He said he had chosen to "host" Trump's daughter, Ivanka.

"I had to make a choice, between responding to my father's invitation or hosting my daughter, and I chose my daughter. And of course I chose my daughter with my father's permission, " Rama said, referring to Ivanka Trump's visit to Vlora yesterday, where in the evening Rama also had coffee with the US president's daughter.

19 of them signed the agreement for membership in this initiative today. Only Albania and Belarus were absent from the signing of the agreement today.
