Llambi Gegprifti, former minister and former candidate of the Political Bureau of the Labor Party, passed away at the age of 81.

The news of his death was announced by his daughter, Sonila Qato, former Minister of State for Entrepreneurship through social networks.

 " Gegpriest Lamp! Farewell our dear father! On this beautiful day at the beginning of May, you closed your eyes forever, grieving our hearts, to be immortal for us, your daughters, mother, grandsons and granddaughters. You left us the greatest wealth, your honest life, your name that has always made us proud! Farewell to our dear father", she writes on social networks.

The escort to the last residence will take place on Tuesday at 13:00 at the Sharra cemetery. While the funeral ceremony will take place today and tomorrow at the premises of "Funeral Home Alba".

Llambi Gegprifti was born on February 14, 1942, in Pogradec. He was a former Albanian politician and chairman of the Executive Committee of the People's Council of the District of Tirana from 1986 to 1987 and from 1989 to 1990. He was a candidate-member of the Political Bureau of the Party of Work of Albania for the years 1971, 1976, 1981 and 1986.

In July 1974, Gegprift was elected Deputy Minister of Defense. Together with Hekuran Isai, Pali Miska and Qirjako Mihalin, he was one of the leaders of the new generation within the Labor Party of Albania. In 1978, he was elected a member (representative of Pogradec District) and the first deputy of the People's Assembly. On January 15, 1982, he was appointed Minister of Industry and Mining in the first government of Prime Minister Adil Çarçani, he held the position until November 23, 1982.

From February 20, 1987 to February 2, 1989, he was again Minister of Industry and Mines in the third Çarçani Government. On December 13, 1993, he was sentenced to 8 years in prison by a special court in post-communist Albania for "embezzlement of funds". He served only one year in prison and was released by the Court of Appeal on November 30, 1994. Gegprifti left Albania in 1995.

On September 29, 1996, the District Court of Tirana accused nine former APS leaders of "having committed crimes against humanity in collaboration with each other", specifically "...being in high party and state positions, they acted based on the law. but have satisfied their passions and unjust instructions ", writes Qato. 

Gegprift held important positions during the communist period as Deputy Minister of Defense and then Minister of Industry and Mines in the first government of Prime Minister Adil Çarçani.

In post-communist Albania, Gegprift was sentenced to 20 years in prison for their activities during the dictatorship.
