NATO warns Belgrade about Banjska: The perpetrators are known, now it's

NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Partnerships, Kevin Hamilton, stated from Pristina that the Alliance expects Serbia to take concrete steps to establish justice regarding the armed attack in Banjska in 2023.

During a meeting with journalists, Hamilton spoke about the security situation in Kosovo, the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue and NATO's relations with Belgrade, emphasizing that responsibility for the attacks in the north remains a key issue for advancing cooperation with Serbia.

Asked about the risk of new incidents on the eve of the electoral processes in Kosovo, he stated that the current situation on the ground is assessed as stable, but NATO and KFOR remain on alert due to the history of tensions in the north.

"KFOR is here for a reason. NATO is constantly monitoring the situation to prevent any potential escalation," Hamilton declared.

Speaking about the attack in Banjska, the senior NATO official said that the Alliance expects the organizers and perpetrators to face justice, while adding that Serbian authorities are also aware of the individuals responsible.

"I have just arrived from Belgrade and my message to the Serbian authorities was clear: NATO expects accountability and justice for the incidents of 2023. We believe that Serbia knows who the organizers of the attack are and now the ball is in its court to take concrete action," said Hamilton.

He underlined that attacks on KFOR troops are unacceptable and that without progress on this issue, certain cooperation processes between NATO and Serbia cannot move forward.

According to Hamilton, the Alliance wants deeper and more transparent relations with Serbia, but advancing partnership programs will depend on establishing justice for the events in northern Kosovo.

Finally, he reiterated NATO's support for the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade, mediated by the European Union.
