Car crashes into crowd of pedestrians in Italy, 7 injured, two in serious

A serious incident has shaken the city of Modena in Italy, where a vehicle traveling at high speed has hit several pedestrians in the city center, leaving at least seven people injured, two of them in serious condition.

According to Italian media and the Italian news agency ANSA , the incident took place on Via Emilia, a busy area over the weekend. Witnesses said the car was "driving at around 100 kilometres per hour" and swerved towards the pavement, hitting several people.

After the collision, the driver of the vehicle got out of the vehicle and attempted to stab a passerby who was trying to stop him. He was later neutralized by citizens and police forces.

Italian authorities have announced that the detainee is a 30-year-old man of North African origin, who is being questioned to clarify the motives of the incident.

According to preliminary reports, a woman was seriously injured and is at risk of having both legs amputated. Meanwhile, some of the injured were transported by helicopter to hospitals in Bologna.
