Italian health ministry confirms: Quarantined man is being tested for hantavirus

Earlier today there were reports that an Italian man was being taken to hospital with symptoms of hantavirus.

But a spokesperson for the country's health ministry confirmed to Sky News that this was not the case. Instead, they said he was being tested but remained in quarantine.

"There is no man in hospital in Italy. The one mentioned [in the report] is under control at his home in quarantine and we are testing him. But he is at home," they confirmed.

The previous report claimed that someone was being sent to the Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute of Infectious Diseases - a hospital specializing in infectious diseases.

A local mayor rushed to deny the report, and the hospital itself said it was only testing medical samples from quarantined individuals.
