French air traffic controllers on strike, flights to Europe are disrupted

European flights faced long disruptions today after a strike by French air traffic controllers forced airlines to cancel half of those scheduled to arrive or depart from Paris airports and others that would have flown over France .
Strikes and staff shortages in recent months have forced airlines to cancel thousands of flights, dashing their hopes for a summer comeback after widespread COVID-19 lockdowns, with disruptions extending into the fall.
French air traffic control union SNCTA said in a statement that the strike was linked to the effects of inflation and its demand for more staff.
