Kushi wishes the new academic year, ignores the teachers' protest

The new academic year for students and teachers starts with protests and boycotts. The academic staff has asked the government to increase their salaries by 20-30% and until the demands are met, they will protest every day.

The Minister of Education Evis Kushi has congratulated the students and lecturers at the start of the new academic year, but has not said a word about the protest which will be held from today onwards in every faculty.

In her post on Facebook, Khushi refers to the crisis as a result of the war in Ukraine and the support that the government has offered to her. The minister focuses on the projects and programs that aim to give Albanian universities prestigious conditions, but does not stop at any moment on the demands of the pedagogues which have brought protests and the boycott of the new academic year.

"This new academic year coincides with a difficult situation, when the whole world, including Albania, is suffering the consequences of a crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. The Albanian government has undertaken a series of measures to support every family, including yours, to mitigate the effects of the price crisis as much as possible. But our support for you doesn't stop there.

This year we have offered an exemption from fees and monthly scholarships worth as much as the minimum wage for students who choose priority programs, those who have excellent results, as well as students who have won international Olympiads.

In the meantime, we are continuing without stopping the work and investments to improve the accommodation conditions in the student residences, both in the capital and in other university cities. We have also strengthened cooperation with the municipalities, the universities themselves and various donors, so that the university infrastructure everywhere in Albania offers the best contemporary standards.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for deciding to study in Albania, trusting, among other things, the internationalization process of universities. This process will give even more quality and value to your degree, bringing you closer to the most prestigious European and world universities.

We will continue to work as much as possible so that you have new quality study alternatives here, in order that after your studies you can integrate into the labor market as soon as possible and contribute as much as possible to our beloved Albania.

We need you! The country needs you very much!

Two words for you, dear fellow teachers.

I want to express my utmost respect and gratitude for your work and dedication to the formation of future professionals. And at the beginning of this academic year, I am confident that we will further increase our efforts and cooperation to do the best for our students, but also to increase performance in all academic and university aspects, in function of the development of country. Our support for you will continue without stopping", writes Kushi.
