November, the month of Albanian heritage in Canada

November, the month of Albanian heritage in Canada

The Parliament of Canada accepted for consideration the bill to declare the month of November as 'Albanian Heritage Month' across Canada

The decision came as a gesture to recognize and celebrate the achievements and contribution that Albanians make in all aspects of life in Canada.

The proposal was made by Liberal MP Yvan Baker with the support of Liberal MP (Toronto-Danforth) Julie Dabrusin.

"I hope that all members of parliament will support this law. Canada is the home of many Albanians, their contribution is spread all over the country, in many fields, economy, society, art, culture, etc.

And this law, if approved, will give us an opportunity to celebrate Albanian heritage month, it will give us an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of Albanians and it would give Albanian-Canadians another chance to say "I am proud to be Albanian".

Until approval, this law will have to go through several readings and debates, and in the end it will be recognized as valid even by the Governor. The process is similar to that of the Albanian Heritage Act in Ontario, which has been in effect since December 8, 2016.
