Renowned director Jean-Marc Vallée - who directed the 2013 drama "Dallas Buyers Club" - passed away on Sunday in Quebec City, Canada, at the age of 58. The news was confirmed to CNN by the publicist of his production company.

The director began working on Canadian music videos and short films, before making his artistic debut with the French-language film "Liste noire", also known by his English title "Black List".

His other very popular film was "Dallas Buyers Club", the 2013 film based on the true story of an AIDS patient who becomes a distributor of experimental treatments. Although Vallée's directing was not recognized by the Academy, the film was nominated for Best Picture, while stars Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto won both Oscars for their performances.
