Montenegro: Tourists infected with COVID-19 will be treated free of charge

Government authorities in Montenegro have decided that foreign tourists who become infected with COVID-19 during their stay in the country will be treated free of charge and all costs will be borne by the state. This important decision comes on the eve of the tourist season.

Montenegrin Economic Development Minister Jakov Milatovic said the health protocols would be distributed to the tourism sector and embassies next week and would be in English and Russian.

Meanwhile, Montenegrin Health Minister Jelena Borovinic Bojovic said that they have tried to simplify the protocol and that tourists will be explained how to behave if they feel symptoms of Covid-19 or become infected with Covid-19, reports "Vijesti".

"The government has decided that tourists who become ill with Covid-19 during their stay in Montenegro and will be hospitalized will be treated at the expense of the state," she said.

PCR testing, if necessary by tourists returning to their country, will normally be performed in two ways - one will be organized with the assistance of the Montenegrin Institute of Public Health and will be performed free of charge and tourists will be in able to take tests and in private laboratories. All hoteliers will share 10% of the capacity for possible COVID-19 cases.

In the last 24 hours in Montenegro 95 cases of COVID-19 were registered and 3 victims, while 148 patients were cured. Podgorica is getting ready for the opening of the tourist season just like other countries.
