The flag with the communist star in 'Sunny Hill', DP deputy: Dua Lipa

The display of the Albanian flag with the communist star on the big screen of the 'Sunny Hill' festival in Tirana has brought harsh reactions.

The DP MP, Dhurata Çupi, has asked the organizers to provide an explanation and apology for the case, while adding that the world-famous singer, Dua Lipa, will have felt ashamed.

"One of the first decisions of the Assembly to emerge from the March 22, 1992 elections was the removal of the communist star from the national flag of the Republic of Albania. 30 years later, the star has reappeared as a giant where it was not expected, at the festival organized in Tirana, which should promote the national symbols of Albanians everywhere.

Maybe the thousands of young people who were there to have fun didn't notice the detail, and maybe they're not even impressed, but the festival organizers owe us an explanation and an apology.

Albania needs to be promoted as a normal country, where well-known artists perform, the youth needs to have opportunities for entertainment, the society needs to be emancipated. But neither Albania, nor the youth, nor society can move forward with the symbols of evil.

The star on the Albanian flag is retrograde, not modernism. It is a symbol of the bloodiest dictatorship in Europe that left us isolated, that killed, punished, exiled thousands and thousands of Albanians without trial. It is the symbol of the dictatorship that crippled an entire society spiritually, intellectually and psychologically. It is the symbol of the vassalage of Enver Hoxha's dictatorship towards Yugoslavia, the symbol of the national betrayal of the communist dictatorship towards Kosovo. The star on our national flag is a desecration of the sacrifice of thousands and thousands of Albanians of Albania and Kosovo who gave their lives for freedom and for the red and black flag, without the communist star.

Albanians deserve an explanation and an apology today. I am convinced that even Dua Lipa will have felt embarrassed by the communist star at this festival in Tirana!" , writes the democratic deputy.
