The former socialist MP Jurgis Çyrbja was arrested on Sunday in Durrës, a few days after he resigned from the mandate of the deputy, which he had held since 2017. The Special Structure Against Organized Crime and Corruption, SPAK, announced in an announcement brief that the arrest warrant was issued under the charges of 'Active corruption in elections', provided for by Article 328 of the Criminal Code; "Supporting the author of the crime", provided by article 302/1/2 of the Criminal Code, as well as "Trading of state secrets by citizens", provided by article 295/1 of the Criminal Code". Active corruption in elections provides for a sentence of one to five years, while Article 302/1/2 provides for a sentence of two to seven years. Article 295/1 provides punishment from a fine of up to five years.

Ergys Çyrbja was elected for the first time as a deputy of the Socialist Party in 2017 in the district of Durrës. Çyrbja, a former mortgage director, became known in particular for the case of the former Hotel Vollgë, a property in the center of Durrës, in which Emiljano Shullazi, convicted several times for various crimes, had an interest. According to his CV, Çyrbja, 39 years old, graduated in 2010 and became the director of Durrës Mortgage in 2013 and deputy in 2017.

Çyrbja was summoned and interrogated at SPAK on October 10. When he left SPAK's offices, he stated that he had given clarifications on issues related to the time when he managed the Durrës mortgage. Later he handed over the mandate of the deputy, a move he justified with "the need to take care of his health". From 2021, Ergys Çyrbja held the mandate of deputy for the Socialist Party.

After the handover of the mandate from Çyrbja, as well as after his arrest, the leader of the PD-Atlantic Democrats Party, Lulzim Basha, reacted, stating that the leader of the Socialist Party, Edi Rama, made him a deputy as the representative of the gangs of Shijak and Durrës. .
