The Democratic Party Parliamentary Group has today submitted to the Assembly an official request addressed to the Council for Legislation, for the dismissal of the Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi.

In the document signed by at least 28 opposition MPs, the DP accuses Peleshi of serious violations of the Constitution and the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly, as well as of biased political behavior in the conduct of parliamentary proceedings, in favor of the Socialist Party and Prime Minister Edi Rama.

According to the DP, in the plenary sessions of September 16 and 18, 2025, the Speaker of the Assembly violated procedural rules and repeatedly denied the rights of opposition MPs, including the right to speak and the right to debate.

In the September 16 session, the DP claims that the Assembly was convened in violation of the minimum deadlines provided for by the Rules of Procedure and that the draft decisions were approved through an unconstitutional accelerated procedure, denying the opposition the opportunity to discuss or oppose the changes to the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly.
